Hidden messages within modern commercials

Today’s post is another one regarding the degradation of our society away from the core values of morality.

While I was in the break room this morning I happened to catch this 30 second car commercial. For one, it shows how no one actually communicates anymore. Instead, people find themselves consumed by their devices (or better put; vices). The thing that I took away from this commercial however was the last thing the driver had to say.

He said, and I quote… “I have a brand new putter you don’t even know about. It’s awesome.” The way in which he said it, implying that it would remain a secret did not sit well with me at all.

Having pointed that out, I like how this commercial is so subtle with its none car insurance related message. First of all, we see the nice car, the beautiful healthy kids and pretty wife, as well as the insane amount of gadgets everyone in the car has. As a result it is very easy to assume that this is what success is supposed to look like.

Because, honestly… this family seems to have it together when you consider those aspects of the visuals we are presented (new car. Tons of expensive toys, etc.).

But, I digress.

Not only is this family disconnected as a result of being connected to their vices. It also implies through the driver’s final statement that there is a level of dishonesty, resentment, or even an intentional withholding of information within the family unit. Despite the fact that this family appears to have it together based on their material possessions, we can clearly see that the spiritual integrity of their relationships as a family is not founded in having open and honest dialogue.

I don’t know about you, but I would prefer honesty over luxury any day. Unfortunately, in this day and age we are constantly force fed this type of subtle propaganda to no end.

The sad truth is that this commercial is a success simply due to the fact that so many people within a family unit can relate to something as subtle as making a several hundred dollar purchase in secret while knowing that every financial decision can and does affect the entire family unit.

In short, if you are a covetous  person who prefers the pursuit of self interest over the values of honesty within your family unit, then this car insurance is for you.

But… who are we kidding. I am clearly ignorant, and I am just overthinking things. What’s the harm in shoving this down millions of people’s throats on constant repeat?

Probably nothing.

Noah is pretty much as legit as it gets

Well, after nearly 6 and a half years I have somehow managed to find my way back into a studio recording. You have no idea how good it feels to be laying down tracks again after all this time. One of my friends from church just so happens to be as legit as it comes, and that’s all there is to it.

Noah-is-legit

I hung out at his house for a few hours today laying the groundwork for a Deathcore song. I had a lot of fun. It may seem silly, but I got a lot of emotional release out of today’s session. Although this is not typically the genre I have recorded and toured in the past, I am extremely excited about this project. Tentatively, right now the goal is to record a 3 song EP and self release it on bandcamp. From there who knows what will happen… all that really matters is that right now we are having fun with it, and that’s what counts.

Here is a little taste of what we laid down. I recommend putting on headphones. My cellphone’s mic recorder doesn’t do it justice otherwise.

Anyway, this dude is my new hero… apart from Jesus of course. More on this adventure as it develops in the near future.

Art and friends at church

Well, as it turns out one of my friends at church is actually pretty freaking legit at drawing. With that in mind I talked them into sending me one of their sketches so that I could bring it to life with a little color and pizzazz. I think it turned out pretty good considering the fact that what I had to work with was already great to being with.

Not sure if this will end up heading anywhere, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we both team up in the near future with some more collaboration sketches that potentially turn into something bigger like zines or DIY comics. Could be pretty sweet if you ask me.

More details on this to come as it develops in its own timing.

Is the mark of the beast already here – 2017

Revelation 13:16-17 – And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

An ultra-trendy co-working space in central Stockholm is offering microchip implants to its 2,000 members, in order to help them open doors or operate office equipment. The implants have become so popular, the work space stages regular parties where attendees can get “chipped.

And before you point out that some of these people are getting it in their left hand rather than their right, please remember the bible says that he will force you to take the mark at some point. Right now, those that are taking this mark are doing it willingly. There is a difference.

It’s not only starting to ramp up in the US this year, but overseas as well.

With all of this in mind, I would point out a post I did a few days ago regarding the removal of physical cash in 2018 with the aid of bitcoin.

This stuff has been on the cusp of taking of for nearly a decade now. News agencies like CNN and NBC have been telling us that this type of technology was headed our way for a while now. Well, it is finally here… right on top of us. There are a lot of other examples to look at. For starters there are a few large night clubs both in the states and abroad that use the rfid chip as a way to allow VIP members to skip the line at the door while also having rapid access to the bar. Some of these clubs also have what is called rfid implant parties.

Another example of how this thing has grown is what one spokesperson for an American based company had to say while chipping its employees this year. “When we came across this and saw it being used in other societies, we said why not us?

This means that it is already being used elsewhere to a large degree.

I am sorry, but I guess I am ignorant and I just don’t get it. Why would I be okay with going into a society where they have that much control over the populous? If they don’t like you for any one reason they can just turn off your chip (no more buying… no more selling).

This photo taken 10 May 2002 shows the VeriChip, w

Now, I am in no way suggesting that this rfid chip is without a doubt the mark of the beast. I have no personal way of knowing that for sure. No one does. All I am pointing out with this blog post is to what degree it has built up steam in the last 8 months worldwide.

With that in mind, I can’t help but wonder how many Americans have this implant already. With the drastic rise in articles like this one  popping up recently I wouldn’t be surprised if the average was currently something like 1 in 30.

But hey, what do I know? I’m just ignorant. Keep on keeping on and let big brother make your decisions for you. Because, before long regardless of whether its the rfid chip or not, there is coming a day when he will cause ALL to partake in just such a venture.

Final Point – please note that it says “to receive a mark in” and not “to receive a mark on“.

Revelation 13:16-17 – And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Worship Team Drummer Update

I thought I would do a quick update on the fact that I recently joined the worship team with the church that Sarah and I attend in South Austin. With that in mind, here you go…

Honestly, I am not sure how long I have been on the team now. All I can say is that it goes quick. It feels like I have already been the drummer for the church for close to 4 or 5 months. It probably hasn’t been quite that long, but it feels like it.

unnamed

I am going to be honest and say that, although it feels great to finally be playing drums on a regular basis, it would be a bit more exciting to be thrashing some blast beats or some progressive experiential math rock.

Regardless, it feels great to be part of the team. Don’t get me wrong… most worship style music is pretty basic (I think we have only played one 3/4 song since I started). Being on the team has been a blessing for sure. It feels good to have the opportunity to serve in that capacity. As a result, my guitar made its way out of the closet and got tuned up after like 4 years of just collecting dust. I wrote a song with the worship leader recently (Psalms 61). We recorded it with another friend and it is still in production. Having said that, being on this team has been a big deal for me. I have that itch to write again. I have that itch to record again. Hopefully in the near future I will put together a new EP.

A family that longs to grow

Well, now that the cat is out of the bag so to speak (meaning that Sarah and I have talked with our parents), I figured I would post a quick little blog about it here. Sarah and I have been together for 7 years, this year. Our life together has been pretty great with very few bumps in the road along the way. And, life seems to be coming together.

With that in mind, we have been thinking about starting a family outside of just us, our two dogs, and one cat.

That’s right… we have been talking about having children.

colorado-adoption

But, not just any children. God has put in on our hearts to foster and adopt. There are countless children across the world that are in need of a loving home. And when you break it down even smaller to a place like just the county that we live in, the numbers somehow still manage to remain astronomical. With that in mind, we feel that this step in our lives together is one way to show the love of Christ. To show selflessness. To show love, compassion, and care. To make a difference. Although this difference will only be made in the life of perhaps just one child, to that child this difference is a world of difference.

And so, I am writing this blog asking for prayer from those that do pray as we move forward with this journey together. We have picked out a local Christian organization to work with and have begun jumping through the hoops of their program.

We look forward to what the Lord has in store.

5 years is a long time ~ a heart that longs for song

Most of the time I tend to post about why I know NASA is fake or the fact that the CPHEC is absolutely littered with holes which makes it not at all close to the truth. But today… today’s post is more of a thanks and praise be to God type of post.

If you didn’t know this, I spent a pretty large chunk of my mid to late 20’s as a full time singer-songwriter. I experienced a lot of life during that time. It is even how I met and married my wife. As a result, it is essentially why I now find myself living in Austin, Texas. Because, at the end of the day had I not met Sarah, I would probably be back in Florida now. With that said, this time in my life as a singer-songwriter really did impact how life turned out for me in my 30’s.

With the release of my last album, Mother of Harlots, being released in 2011, my wife and I toured that album for the better part of 2012. After that however, God moved us in a different direction. Since then I haven’t really played music at all. My guitar and other gear have been tucked away in the closet… and my drums had been given away long before that.

I have always told myself that if I were to get back into music it would be as a supporting member of a church worship team rather than something that was focused on me specifically. And honestly, when we moved to Austin (live music capital of the US) I just knew that I would be out of luck. What church would I ever attend in live music capital of America that was in need of musicians? I just knew that every church in this town was going to be flooded with talent.

unnamed

So, after just a short time of being at Calvary South Austin I was totally taken off guard when the drummer stepped down and started going to another fellowship and saw that no other drummers were stepping forward. This honestly made no sense to me. Surely, in live music capital of the US, there would be drummers a plenty at every single church just waiting for their turn to serve on the team.

Which brings me to a long time coming answer to prayer.

My prayer over the last 5 years has been that God would bring me back to music for His glory. And somehow, in some way, He did. Not only have I started serving within the church to that capacity, but God has brought with it a new group of friends who are willing and eager to create music as well.

Today, a few of us got together for the first time to just jam-write-record some tracks. Obviously, since it was our first go at doing something like that it was a little rocky, but even still. God is good. I am beyond blessed to see God moving me back into music like this. The last 5 years without it have been rather quiet.

My new prayer is that things start getting a little rowdy. And from how things have been going since we moved here, it looks like that might be the case for my future in music. God is doing a work. I can’t wait to see what He does, because let’s face it… I miss music and I am beyond blessed to be doing it again.
